Between 1960 and 1970 the number of people killed on motorcycles in France rose enormously. In the 1970s, motorcyclists in the Paris region used to gather at the Bastille, and every Friday night competed at Rungis in the parking des Halles, on improvised circuits.
There was a total lack of safety provision and 25 peole were killed between 1977 and 1978 at Rungis. In 1978, to avoid further bloodshed, motorcyclists, led by bikers and Yves Mourousi named "Mr. Moto" by the government, decided to build a track so that all bikers could practice in safety.
In 1979, the municipality of Tremblay-en-France agreed, at the request of the State, that a circuit could be built on a provisional municipality. The circuit was inaugurated on 1st December 1979 under the name Circuit Carole. Carole is the name of an 18 year old girl (Carole Le Fol) who died during one of the last wild runs of Rungis.
Thanks to Carole, bikers have a safe place to play.
