Tockwith Driving Centre was created in 1970 by current owner Simon Moore’s Father, Reg Moore. He was an ex-Policeman who wanted to train drivers under seventeen years of age on a purpose built training centre which includes a skid pan, along with LGV driving courses. Today the centre is still going strong and split into four divisions:
Driver Training – this is conducted on the various circuits on-site in various vehicles from Karts to Cars and Trucks
Motorsports – this is mainly the team using the track facilities and workshop facilities
Corporate Events – this uses all the site to provide a mixed multi-drive event tailored to the Customer’s requirement
Driver Management – this is a great success story over the past years with many Driver’s going all the way to the top of the Motorsports ladder.
Tockwith Motorsports is situated between York and Wetherby in North Yorkshire, and in 2009 laid a new racing surface on their airfield circuit. Drivers that have used the new circuit describes it as the best kept secret in the North. The circuit was developed to complement the existing facilities on the old airfield.
Simon Moore, who owns the circuit and associated facilities, feels now that he has the best facility for developing the next generation of racing talent, as they also have the cars to learn in and also race. He also runs one of the most successful team in modern day Ginetta with wins in the G20 Junior Ginetta and also the G50 Championships in the last three years. But the facilities are not just for driver development; the whole site is a great destination for Corporate days, Stag and Hen dos, as well as car launches and car development both of road as well as race cars.
