Racing at Reims-Gueux first occurred in 1926 on the public roads in between the villages of Thillois and Gueux. The circuit was effectively a triangle of the main roads linking Thilloix, Gueux and Garenne, two of which were very long straights favouring cars with straight-line speed and slipstreaming battles were common. Race organizers even felled trees and demolished old houses in order to make the circuit even quicker. In 1952, the circuit was significantly altered to bypass the village of Gueux, and many people now refer to the course as simply Reims. F1 last came here in 1966, but the circuit closed after financial difficulties in 1972.
Today, the circuit is disused for racing though as a public road you are able to drive on the start finish straight. Les Amis du Circuit de Gueux is a non-profit organisation working to preserving the traces of the circuit, and together with WEEA Organisation keep the spirit of racing alive by hosting historic/classic car events there. The circuit, being built on public roads, is easily accessible to this day, and has become a popular place for motoring enthusiasts to stop by on a driving holiday to take a few minutes to sit in the old grandstands, walk amongst the derelict pit buildings and dream of days gone by.
