Motor racing in the city of Most first occurred not long after the second World War on the 25th of May 1947 when a motorcycle race was held on the track around the beer brewery; the first car race was held five years later. Construction work on Autodrom-Most started in 1978 on the site of Vrbenský mine, spearheaded by Václav Paur who'd come up with the idea of a permanent circuit in 1976. It seems hard to believe, but the track was built without the possibility of inspecting foreign racetracks. The circuit owners had only briefly visited Hockenheim and Nürburgring, and all they had to go on were the FIA and FIM regulations and knowledge gained form magazines and TV broadcasts, but no detail was overlooked. After four years of hard work, the racetrack started to take shape. The new race-circuit was granted a three year FIM licence for motorcycles championships and also a three year FIA licence, which allowed group C cars, formula 3 and Interserie events to take place. Since then, the circuit has continued to improve its facilities and has seen Thoroughbred GP, Historic F1, EuroBOSS, European Le Mans series and Ferrari Challenges all visit the circuit, and these days Most plays host to FIA European Truck Racing and CIK Superkarts as well as national saloon car championships.
