The Okayama International Circuit (formerly known as TI Circuit Aida) is located in Mimasaka, Okayama Prefecture, Japan. TI is abbreviation of "Tanaka International" - the original holding company. The circuit was constructed in 1992 as a private race track for the wealthy. Soon, it hosted its first race, staged by veteran British drivers (hence the circuit's corners being named Hobbs, Attwood etc). In 1994 and 1995, the TI Circuit Aida hosted the Formula One Pacific Grand Prix; both events were won by Michael Schumacher in a Benetton. Following the takeover in March 2003 of "TI Circuit Company", ownership was transferred from "Tanaka International Company" to Unimat Holding Co. Ltd. The new owner of the circuit renamed it Okayama International Circuit Co., Ltd. on May 1st 2004 and the name of the circuit was changed from "TI Circuit Aida" to "Okayama International Circuit" on January 1, 2005. The circuit hosts rounds of Formula V6 Asia, FIA World Touring Car Championship, Japanese GT and the D1 drifting championship. There is also a kart track, and the circuit holds driving days where you can take your car or bike on track (but you are not allowed to overtake their pace cars!)
