The Monaco Grand Prix celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2009, and has long been considered the Jewel in the Crown of the F1 calendar. The unique street circuit around the harbour of the glamorous Principality oozes history, with so many heroes of the past making their names here, some losing their lives trying.
The challenge of driving such a narrow, twisty road circuit with barriers ever present, making over 4,200 gear changes, surviving constant direction changes, relentless acceleration and braking, making this one of the most physically and mentally demanding races to win. Ayrton Senna still holds the record for wins here with a tally of six. McLaren are the dominant team with 15 wins, while Michael Schumacher holds the lap record at 1 minute 14.439 seconds, set in 2004.
